Mike and Kathy

Mike at the Kiwanis

Mike and Friend

Mike, His Mother and Kathy

We are fortunate to have Mike as one of our Ward 5 Council members. On Council he has worked for the preservation of neighborhoods and the restoration of services for residents of our Ward. He helped with the organization of the Germantown neighborhood association, and worked to resolve a snow plowing problem on Sunset Street. He was responsible for restoring the 2009 funding for Project Grow.

Mike has a diverse background and experience in working with people from all walks of life. He has a true desire to help people, and to make our city more attractive.

Mike first taught science in junior high school in Brooklyn NY. After receiving his MA in Special Education, he taught as an early childhood reading specialist. Later he helped prepare special education students, aged 18-22, to enter the work world.

For the next 12 years Mike ran his own construction and renovation company. Mike is a master electrician. As an independent contractor, he successfully worked with a great many customers and suppliers. During this period he employed several people but always continued his role as the company electrician.

For the past 15 years Mike and Kathy's home has been a bed and breakfast on Ann Arbor's Old West Side. Recently Mikes mother joined the family. Their First Street Garden Inn has been featured on the Small Elegant Hotels website.

Mike helps many people through his extensive volunteer activities. He works with the Ann Arbor Kiwanis Club helping with Saturday sales. He has served on the Kiwanis board of directors. He helped organize their Meals on Wheels program for the homebound and does Meals on Wheels deliveries. He has also served on the board of directors of the Huron Valley chapter of the Sierra Club.

Mike uses his teaching experience to tutor children in reading for the Family Learning Institute. He is a volunteer member of the Executive Committee of the local chapter of the Sierra Club.

Together with his wife Kathy, he has made our city more attractive. Mike and Kathy added all the beautiful plants around their home. Their home was on the 2005 annual Garden Walk Tour. The Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Department gave them a Golden Trowel Award in 2000.

Mike has met, talked, and worked with people from all over the US and the world. He understands the concerns and problems of citizens of our diverse ward. He will talk with you. Email Mike@VoteforMike.org.
